Open Arms

Open Arms Christian Childcare Center - A ministry of Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church

Open Arms Christian Childcare Center is committed to enhancing the development and well being of children by providing safe, educational, family-focused child care, cradled in the arms of Christian love.

Open Arms is a state licensed, fully secure, non-profit childcare center that cares for children ages 6 weeks through 6 years old (Pre-K). We offer full-time care, regular Part-time care, and Preschool (3, 4 and 5 year olds).

Open Arms promotes the acceptance of all children without regard to ability, race, ethnicity, or social stature and embraces each child individually. By forming meaningful relationships with caregivers and classmates, Open Arms is committed to nurturing a child’s emotional, physical and spiritual growth.

Open Arms was started in 1985 by Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, whose mission statement asserts the need for “a well-rounded program that touches people within and outside our congregation.” The center moved to First Presbyterian Church on Orange Street in 1998. Now a focus for both organizations, Open Arms thrives under the direction and guidance of their leadership.

Our hope is to assist working families by teaching and caring for their children in a secure setting while following the ways of Christ.

Jesus said, “Anyone who welcomes a little child in my name is welcoming me; and anyone who welcomes me is welcoming my Father who sent me.”  Mark 9:37.

Open Arms blends childcare and education. Each day, children are offered a stimulating environment with an array of developmentally appropriate learning experiences developed with their age, abilities and interests in mind. Since young children learn best through play, experiences are planned to encourage their natural curiosity and eagerness to learn.

Open Arms also recognizes each child’s need for personal loving relationships with adults and other children, for intellectual stimulation and for creative expression. Our curriculum specifically addresses growth in these areas and supplements experiences provided by the family.

We promote a positive self-esteem by treating each child as an individual.

Our unique focus on Christian education incorporates the basic principles of Christianity in our entire program. Each day, children participate in prayer, listen to Bible stories, and sing religious songs. All practices are non-denominational.
