Giving Tuesday - A Day to Make a Difference

In a short span, we have witnessed the changes from summer to fall, and we are now looking at the beginning of winter. The air is much cooler, as we witness the change of seasons, and we remark how quickly the year progresses. Now in the season of Advent, everywhere we look we see the signs and colors of Christmas. May the love of Christ fill your heart and home as we prepare to celebrate our Savior’s birth, and then as we welcome a New Year.

We thank you and our congregations for your faithful tithes and offerings that enable the English District to bring God’s message of hope to others. As we reflect upon 2014, we would like to share how the congregations and schools of the English District are making a difference for Christ’s Kingdom every day.  Gifts of almost $12,000 were given in response to the letter you received last year as you partnered with the congregations and others around our English District in 2013 to help:

  • Plant and support new mission churches through District grants totaling $218,000.
  • Support campus ministries across the District to provide worship, Bible study, and the resources needed to care  for and plant seeds of faith among students on college  campuses  with $71,100.
  • Provide scholarships to 29 students studying at the Seminaries and Concordia Universities totaling $19,000.
  • Support a $30,000 partnership with the Dominican Republic Lutheran Mission (DRLM), touching the lives of others by training leaders, planting mission churches, caring for children with disabilities, and building schools.
  • Encourage growth and ministry within English District schools with grants in the amount of $8,150.

“Giving Tuesday,” is a new tradition that follows after Thanksgiving and two of the biggest shopping days: Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Please prayerfully consider joining us in ministry, so the English District – LCMS can continue its work in spreading the message of Christ. A goal of $20,000 has been set. Will you help us reach that goal? Whatever God leads you to give today will be a great blessing as we all work together to plant new missions and schools and provide resources to existing ministries across the United States and Canada and around the world.  Visit englishdistrict.org/giving-opportunities to donate online.

May God bless you and your families.

In Christ Jesus, our Lord,

The Rev. Dr. David P. Stechholz, Bishop/President

English District Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod
